Easy stage, mostly on asphalt. The first 3.5 kilometers are flat, on the quay along the Moselle. Then the route leads into meadows and hills, with some stretches of forest, to finish among the vineyards near Grevenmacher.
We had some nice rest days in Wasserbillig. We visited the local aquarium(s) and took it easy. We went to the city of Luxembourg by train, nice and easy. In the whole of Luxembourg public transport is free, so you can get on and off the train or bus wherever you want (well, if you have a face mask with you...).
Luxembourg is a beautiful city, it’s really worth a visit, but our trip was mainly to visit outdoor stores. We scored new lightweight chairs and together with some stuff we sent “home”, we managed to save almost 4 kilos in our gear!🎉
And we noticed this during our hike today! With 17,5km it was a fairly short stage, so we were in no hurry to leave this morning. We video-called for a while with our 8-year-old niece who is on school vacation. Around 9:30 we walked off the campsite and started our route at the point where the Sûr flows into the Moselle. The first 3,5km were flat and ran nicely along the quay, then the route turned away from the river, into a village through the meadows.
The sun was already standing high and it started to get hot, so it was nice to walk into the coolness of the woods after about 7km. We noticed that the deciduous forests, especially those with beech and oak trees, are a lot darker at this time of year than when we left home. The trees were still almost bare at that time. It’s nice on these sunny days and the Luxembourg forests are beautiful….
Despite having left late, we arrived early in Grevenmacher. At the end we walked past the first grape fields into the village. Walking between the school youth, visibly happy that it’s the weekend, we made our way to the campsite. In the full sun we set up our spot for the rest of the day and evening. Tomorrow will be another longer day.
