A thru-hike through Portugal and Spain
February 1st, 2023. Farol do Cabo de São Vicente, near the small town of Sagres in Portugal: the southwestern tip of mainland Europe. From here, we follow the Algarve eastward and turn north at the southernmost point of Europe. Via old pilgrimage routes, we cross the Iberian Peninsula from south to north, heading for the Pyrenees and Andorra.
After having hiked over 2,000 kilometers last year from the Netherlands through the Ardennes, northern France, the Vosges, the Jura and the Alps, we set no fixed route for this trip — only a general direction. We'll decide which path to take from day to day. The many kilometers over beaches, across the dry vast inland, and through the Pyrenees will bring new challenges.
So... put on your hiking boots and let's hit the road together!
