The hike passes through beautiful forested rocky terrain. The horizontally eroded rock formations give a fairytale feel. The route runs mostly on forest trails. Not difficult to walk, but with some tough climbs and descents. It is a tourist area, which can be crowded on weekends.

The morning feels relatively warm, because we stay on a higher campsite (instead of near a river in a valley) and the sun starts shining early. We can wake up in the sun and let the tent dry.

Today promises to be a beautiful stage through the Müllerthal. Once we are back on the trail, we soon walk past the Chateau into the woods. The landscape changes from lovely park-like to impressive rocky slopes, which manifest themselves as jagged walls on either side of the small river we are following. It is still wonderfully quiet as we ascend and descend in the first few kilometers. After about 8 kilometers, we take a good break and then walk more and more into the crowds. We are not the only ones enjoying this scenery (especially on a Sunday during spring break). We stand still here and there to watch climbers hanging high against the rocks; what an impressive sight.

The trail continues to impress, until in the last kilometers we pass a field of wild orchids and enter inhabited territory again. Before we know, we are in the city center of Echternach. Right in the middle of a busy shopping street, with our dirty hiking boots and big backpacks. It feels a little out of place after several days of walking in nature. But what a beautiful little town Echternach is. It is the oldest town in Luxembourg.

We pitch our tent on a large campsite just on the other side of the Sûre in Germany, on a field amid countless daisies. In the evening we walk back to the center to grab something to eat. Through parks and the abbey, we walk back to our tent. It was a long, but wonderful day. See you tomorrow…
